The Journey

The Journey is a memory drawing of a canoe trip my drawing class took to the Loxahatchee River. It remains one of the singular and pivotal artworks in my growth as an artist. I will always feel that The Journey marks an undeniable moment of change in me. Although it contains lingering feelings and memories that have been layered from tokens, notes, and sketches that I 'took away' with me, this wasn't a unique process for me.

In fact self-sourcing and memories and found-artifacts have always been integral to my artmaking practice. What emerged as I attempted to depict the river's surface and its under-the-surface environment, were entirely new marks and layers on the paper.
